How to list your business with Google

Why?

Listing your business on Google is one of the first steps you should take when starting a business, or when beginning to market a business on the web.  If your customers are looking you up on the internet, chances are they are Googling you.  Ensuring your business is found on Google is simple, its important for SEO, includes analytics and guess what?  Its free!

Here are some bits of helpful information regarding Google My Business!

How?

The first step to use Google My Business is to well…. Google your business!  Search Google for the name of your business and see what happens.  Do you see a card that looks like the one pictured?  If so, you are already listed.

Already Listed?

If you see your business listed look for the “Own this business?” link.

If you see it, click the link to start the process to claim your business.  Sign in with your Google account to continue the process by following the prompts.

I don’t see my business!

If you don’t see your business listed, don’t panic!  It is super easy to sign up, just follow these simple instructions:

  1. Go to google.com/business
  2. Click the “Start Now” button.
  3. Sign in to your Google account.
  4. Follow the prompts.
  5. Verify your business. (by mail or phone)

Get Verified.

Once you have created your listing you need to verify.  This allows your listing to be published and available on Google.  There are a few ways to verify:

  1. Google will send you a postcard in the mail for verification
  2. Verify by Phone
  3. Verify by Email
  4. Some businesses qualify for Instant Verification
